Characteristics of guinea pigs, food, ways to raise them, and precautions

Hello 🤗 This is duz!

How much do you know about guinea pigs? 😮

Contrary to its name, guinea pigs are rodents that have nothing to do with African guinea pigs and are not pigs (🐷...?)

As for the origin of the name, the most likely theory is that it was named Guinea because it came through Africa when it entered Europe, and there is also a theory that the body shape of the Guineas is similar to that of pigs, but the exact origin of the name 🐖 Guinea is unknown. 🤔

Today, we're going to take a moment to learn about an asthma mouse with an ironic name.

Characteristics of the Guinean Pig

Guinea pigs are rodents that look similar to hamsters.

It's bigger than a hamster and has a cute face that resembles a rabbit 😍

It looks a lot like a hamster, but it's far from a hamster biologically, I can't use my front feet as well as hamsters and rabbits, and I can't stand on two feet due to the nature of my body, so I always stand on four feet.

Guinea pigs are animals that are 20-25 cm long and weigh 700 g to 1.2 kg after growth, and are among the largest species of rodents.

It is said that guinea pigs fully grow after six months of age, and their average lifespan is about eight years.

The Feeding of Guineas Pig

Guinea pigs are herbivores that can eat hay, vegetables, and fruits, and they cannot fast on their own, so be careful about controlling the amount of food they eat.

Guinea pigs, like humans, do not produce vitamin C on their own, so they must provide nutritious vegetables.

However, guinea pigs look similar to hamsters, so some people sometimes feed them hamsters.

Hamster feed does not contain vitamin C, so you should feed guinea pig feed with vitamin C 📌

Also, guinea pig feed contains vitamin C, so it is easily oxidized and destroyed when in contact with air, so please supply vegetables and fruits separately.

For vegetables, you can frequently serve celery, paprika, water parsley, cabbage, green lettuce, etc. 🌿 For other vegetables, it is recommended to check their calcium content and divide them into one to two times a week.

Calcium-rich alfalfa hay is provided up to six months old, but asthma mice after growth can develop urinary stones or various diseases if their calcium intake increases.

Fruits such as oranges, apples, pears, and watermelons are also sold, but 🍎 It is not good to eat often due to high sugar content.

The Habitat and Breeding of Guineas

Guinea pigs have no specific habitat, they are distributed worldwide and are native to South America and Peru. 🌎

Guinea pigs are skittish and gentle, and live in groups of 20 to 40 to protect themselves in the wild.

Unlike his skittish personality, he is curious, so when he raises it at home, he first approaches it by expressing affection and likes to touch it when he adapts to his or her family environment and guardian.

In guinea pigs, several females live together around one male.

When a young male is born in a herd, he or she is kicked out of the herd when he or she begins to mature. 😮

Guinea pigs are very easy to conceive and reproduce quickly.

Pregnancy is 60-75 days, longer than other rodents, and usually gives birth to two to four.

Precautions for breeding guinea pigs

Guinea pigs are animals that are native to South America and cannot live in too cold conditions.

It is recommended to keep the temperature of the living environment at 20 to 24 degrees. 🌡 Please live in a pleasant environment with good ventilation.

Since guinea pigs are animals that live in groups, you can feel lonely if you raise just one.

It is best to raise two or more guinea pigs from an early age, but as I mentioned earlier, since they are very fertile, raising them in a pair of male and female can increase the number of guinea pigs, so it is better to raise them among guinea pigs of the same gender.😅

Also, you can take a walk for guinea pigs, but it is better to exercise at home than to take a walk because there are many diseases that can be infected outdoors and there are many animals that are dangerous to guinea pigs such as cats and dogs.

Goods for raising guinea pigs

Finally, let's take a look at the items you need to prepare when growing guinea pigs.

👇 Guinea pig breeding supplies 👇

✅Cage that can be used as a home for natural pigs

Guinea pigs are small animals but they are active so they need a large cage to live in a large space 😉

The commonly sold living box is small for guinea pigs to live in, and it is said that cages over 40cm in height and over 70x120cm in height are produced and raised, or that they are raised in a grazing type by hitting a fence without a cage.

In addition, asthma mice are of a fearless nature, so it is recommended to provide a separate hiding place.

✅ Flooring material that can be peeled off from the inside of the cage

You can use newspapers, pasture sand, toilet sand, etc. on the floor, and you have to take good care of us to keep us clean at all times.

✅ Guinea pig exercise equipment

Guinea pigs cannot fast on their own, and a lack of exercise will likely lead to obesity.

If you become obese, guinea pigs can also develop various adult diseases, so it is recommended to exercise.

Guinea pig exercise equipment is available on the market, so please prepare ⚾ exercise equipment to help you exercise.
